Cairo/Lisbon. Honoring Egyptian biodynamics.
In July, the Gulbenkian Prize for Humanity was awarded in Lisbon, endowed with one million euros. This year’s prize winners include the anthroposophically oriented organization Sekem and the Egyptian Biodynamic Association (EBDA), which it founded. The award recognizes the organizations’ many years of work strengthening biodynamic agriculture in Egypt. For several decades, both Sekem and the EBDA have been regenerating dry land into fertile farmland and supporting farmers in converting their cultivation practices to sustainable agriculture. In doing so, they are making a valuable contribution to positive social change and risk mitigation in the climate crisis. The Economy of Love, a certification standard that identifies ecologically and ethically produced products and was developed by the EBDA, also received recognition with the Gulbenkian Prize.
