Linz, Austria/Ytterjärna, Sweden. What is life like as a young person in today’s world? We asked around. Answers from Alva Hitsch, currently a participant in the Youth Initiative Program in Ytterjärna, Sweden.
What does “home” mean to you?
I grew up in a big family so I feel at home when there are lots of people around me, while I also have my own space. “Home” is also a safe space, where I can recharge my batteries in order to be able to be in the world. When I look at this question in a deeper, more inwardly way then I would say it is me that I call home. The place within myself that is safe and always with me.
What would you like to develop most in yourself?
To be able to be in the world in the most human way. Also, I would like to develop more clarity within myself and the courage to share it with the world.
Who or what inspires you?
I am inspired by people and things that move something within me, that give me a spark, a feeling of life and what it is like to be a human being. I can’t tell a specific person or thing; the encounters just happen as I live life. But usually I am touched by people who are, in my opinion, human.
What has been your best mistake lately?
At the Initiative Forum 2026 in Sweden a few weeks ago I performed at the open mic with my recorder. Since I’ve been playing for 13 years I didn’t think I needed to practice. Surely something will come out. But then I failed some parts and had to start again. To be honest, this has been the most embarrassing moment in a long time. But I found something I am really good at. Win-win-situation!
What questions would you like an answer to?
What is the human will and why is it so difficult to identify if it is the force of human life? Why do so many people actively choose to be unfree in their mind and body?
