I Owe My Life to Rudolf Steiner!

Kiryat Tiv’on, Israel. 2025 is the 100th anniversary of Rudolf Steiner’s death. How does he live on in individual people? Stefanie Allon, Waldorf teacher and lecturer in Israel, gives her answers.

Which sentence by Rudolf Steiner has touched you and why?

“The meaning of the world is realized by the action of humans enlightened by wisdom and warmed by love.” My father gave me these words to take with me when I left home into the uncertainty of the world. They have accompanied and strengthened me and resonate in me to this day.

How do people around you recognize that you are interested in Rudolf Steiner?

I assume that my attempt to live these words is visible to other people. I am carried by a current that Steiner set in motion. This current led me to Israel and enabled me to be active in the realization of Waldorf and therapeutic education in this country.

In which human encounter did Rudolf Steiner come close to you?

I owe my life to Rudolf Steiner! He saved my father by taking personal responsibility for his educational guidance. As a child, my father caused great difficulties at home and at school, which led his mother, my grandmother, to turn to Steiner. So I have felt accompanied and guided from the very beginning of my existence. The encounter with anthroposophy and with all the generous and loving anthroposophists gives my life direction, meaning, and an incentive to act.

For which questions in life is anthroposophy particularly important to you?

I live in an environment (Israel/Palestine) in which contempt for humanity, destructiveness, and individual and national egoism can be felt on a daily basis. Steiner’s forward-looking ideas and his active involvement in social issues are exemplary for me. He showed us how to put aside a narrow-mindedness born of tradition or convenience and encouraged us to approach others, take on social responsibility, and stand up for freedom.
