Geneva, Switzerland. New WHO guidelines for integrative medicine.
At the 77th World Health Assembly, the World Health Organization (WHO) adopted a new strategy for traditional medicine in the last week of May 2025. In the document, the organization acknowledges that traditional, complementary, and integrative medical approaches are not merely cultural practices, but can also play a crucial role in promoting the health of all individuals at a personal level. The strategy articulates clear goals: Improving the evidence base on traditional medicine, ensuring regulatory safety, and promoting quality and accessibility regarding integrative treatments. These three goals are based on a holistic understanding of the human being, who is placed at the center of therapeutic approaches as an individual. With these newly formulated guidelines, the member states of the WHO are encouraged to place holistic and culturally sensitive healing methods at the center of their health policy.
