Dornach/Gempen, Switzerland. A publishing project of enormous proportions is nearing completion.
The Rudolf Steiner Complete Edition has been in publication since 1961, and now its completion is within reach. As part of the project supervised by the Rudolf Steiner Archive, over 400 volumes have already been published; only a small portion of these are books, the rest are transcripts of Steiner’s lectures. The latter genre in particular has posed challenges for the team, as Philip Kovce and Angelika Schmitt, directors of the archive, explain in an interview. Not all lecture transcripts were produced by professional stenographers; many are “works without authors,” such as memoirs that were not reviewed by Steiner and whose authorship can no longer be traced. Finally, Steiner’s letters and notes are being edited and digitized; this year, a handbook on the complete edition will also be published. One goal is to make Steiner’s complete works accessible to the public so that they can be discussed, according to Kovce.
