Saying No to GMOs

Luxembourg, Luxembourg/Berlin, Germany/Bratislava, Slovakia. Lawsuit against the deregulation of GMO-plants.

Despite Europe-wide protests, in June, 2026, the European Parliament approved a deregulation of the rules previously in effect for genetically modified plants in the NGT-1 category. As of July 2028, this means that preventive risk assessments, authorization procedures, traceability, as well as coexistence and opt-out rules for these crops will no longer apply. Furthermore, food and feed derived from NGT-1 crops will no longer be required to be labeled. In September, a German coalition of companies and associations filed a lawsuit against this decision with the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg. This came just a few weeks after the Slovak government had also filed a lawsuit against the deregulation. Slovakia, Austria, Croatia, Hungary, Romania, and Slovenia had voted against the amendment in April.
