Am 3. Oktober 1226 ist Franz von Assisi in seiner kleinen Kapelle vor den Toren der Stadt gestorben. Frei von materiellem Besitz, aber auch von der Sehnsucht nach Anerkennung und Wissen, lebte er mit der Natur und seinen hilfebedürftigen Mitmenschen. 800 Jahre später taucht ein Begriff im sozioökologischen Diskurs auf. Auf der Toilette eines französischen Bioladens las ich dessen Hausregeln der ‹Convivialité› (von Lat. ‹convivere› zusammenleben). Was ermöglicht uns Heutigen ein Mitempfinden von Baum, Wolf, Lamm, Lerche, Wasser, Luft, Erde, Fremden, Feinden und Feindinnen, Seelenpflegebedürftigen, Armen? Was im Mittelalter zu Ehren Gottes geschah, betrifft heute unser gemeinsames Überleben. Liebe muss zu Leben werden. Dafür ist Franz ein Vorbild.
