Intimacy and Security in a Hedge

Nieheim, Germany. A Goldsworthy on biodynamic land.

British artist Andy Goldsworthy is internationally renowned for his land art. Since 1989, he has been creating works of art from natural materials embedded in the landscape in various places worldwide. His mostly ephemeral creations have been immortalized in illustrated books. For the first time, a work of art by Goldsworthy is also being created in Germany, on the fields of the Demeter farm Gut Holzhausen in Westphalia, where the von der Borch family has been practicing biodynamic farming since 1956. The Hedge Walk has been planned there for six years as the ninth station of the existing Nieheim Art Trail. More than 1000 hawthorn bushes have been planted along a field ditch. Over time, these will grow together to form an almost 200-meter-long, accessible tunnel in which visitors can experience an organic space of intimacy and security. Anyone wishing to support the project financially can sponsor one or more plants.
