Alfter, Germany. Waldorf education in an international context: Dr Martyn Rawson becomes honorary professor at Alanus University.


Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences in Alfter near Bonn is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Martyn Rawson as Honorary Professor in the Department of Education. With this award, the university honors Rawson’s significant research work and his commitment to the international development of Waldorf education.

Dr. Rawson is a renowned scholar who has published numerous seminal papers on Waldorf education. His commitment to a global perspective is reflected in his active involvement in the European Commission’s working group on schools, where he plays a key role in shaping the development of European education policy. A central concern of his work is the development of curricula that take into account local, cultural, historical, and geographical characteristics, as well as supporting the promotion of cosmopolitan and intercultural competences among pupils.

A distinctive feature of Waldorf education is its international spread. Dr Rawson’s appointment as Honorary Professor of Waldorf Education in an International Context is part of the internationalization of teacher training at Alanus University. The new International Master of Waldorf Education, organized in cooperation with the China Waldorf Forum (CWF), will start in August 2025. The three-year, part-time Master’s program with a focus on “Teaching and Research” prepares students for a professional career as teachers at Waldorf schools and for academic research work. The program combines online phases with block weeks in China and at Alanus University in Bonn/Alfter.
