Berlin, Germany. Practical climate awareness at Waldorf Schools.
The Waldorf Climate Balance Fund is a new initiative launched by the Friends of Waldorf Education. The initiative’s goal is to translate climate change mitigation into concrete educational projects to be implemented at Waldorf schools so as to show that education and ecology can go hand in hand. The projects aim to inspire students and teachers to take greater responsibility for a healthy climate, both at school and at home.
Planning for the implementation of the first three projects is currently underway, and efforts to secure funding are in progress. Project number one is taking place at the Hekima Waldorf School in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where photovoltaic and water storage systems will be installed to ensure a reliable and sustainable supply of energy and water. At the Goderich Waldorf School in Freetown, Sierra Leone, an ecological school garden will be established. Additionally, the Mbagathi Waldorf School in Kenya is set to receive solar energy infrastructure. The Climate Fund’s website allows supporters to calculate their own ecological footprint and offset it by making a donation to these educational projects.
