The Thresholds of Life

Forest Row, England. The Mental Health Seminar at Emerson College in the UK combines personal and professional development in an anthroposophical training program. The new cycle begins in February 2025. A report by Milena Kowarik.

I have been attending the “Mental Health” seminar since November 2021. This three-year course enables participants to immerse themselves in the human soul and its connection to the body, mind, and environment. The current group consists of teachers, artists, art therapists, psychotherapists, doctors, and social therapists. The course provides an in-depth introduction to mental health. No other training has caught my attention and my thirst for knowledge more than this. In addition to theory, the course offers many different learning opportunities. Through observation exercises, mask and theater work, eurythmy, small group work, and intervision groups, the content is moved and digested in many different ways. We are encouraged to relate what we have learned to our own biography and work. The medical knowledge of two experienced doctors enables a deep understanding of how physical development goes hand in hand with mental development. Concrete case studies enliven the theory. Improvisation work with theater and masks, led by an expert in psychodrama, helps us to internalize the content. In the course of the course, we will delve into deeper layers of anthroposophy.
