Ytterjärna, Sweden. 2025 is the 100th anniversary of Rudolf Steiner’s death. How does he live on in specific individuals? Reinoud Meijer, co-founder and director of the Youth Initiative Program in Sweden, gives his answers.
Which sentence by Rudolf Steiner has particularly touched you, and why?
“Heilsam ist nur, wenn im Spiegel der Menschenseele sich bildet die ganze Gemeinschaft und in der Gemeinschaft lebet der Einzelseele Kraft.”
“A healthy social life is found only, when in the mirror of each soul, the whole community finds its reflection, and when in the whole community the virtue of each one is living.”
This verse reminds me of the fractal nature of our world and the beings that co-create and inhabit it. Our bodily organs fulfill very defined and specific functions in service to the organism as a whole, in like manner, each human has their highly individualised task and role, but always in connection and relation to the whole it is a part of. The health of both the part as well as the whole will depend on the rightful/lawful relation of the one to the other. The expansion of our understanding of the divinely lawful relationship between these two is, for me, the core of Steiner’s teachings and of the anthroposophical endeavour. It is also the leading thought behind the educational space we offer young people at the International Youth Initiative Program. Inviting the deep exploration of both the current realities of our outer world as well as our individual being in order to find where the individual initiative might align with the needs of the collective. It remains relevant and an ongoing effort and inquiry.
