The Moment After

Venice, Italy. The Italian company Itineris Teatro will be performing their play Post at the Theater Festival which takes place at the Goetheanum from July 10 to 14. An interview with the director and drama teacher Elisa Stagni.

What is the performance about?

Post is about the moment after a catastrophe, internal as well as external: a war. In short, the main theme is that the war is over. What now? What happens inside me and between us? What has happened to humanity and civilization? Can we, as free individuals, still find an ethical position in the world?

What themes and questions do you research?

First and foremost, our theme is the journey, real or fictional, in search of opportunities for action. On one side is war—the internal war with one’s monsters and the external war as an (unfortunate) expression of the human; on the other is love as a radiant force trying to mend the world, starting with the complexities of the human condition.

What influence does Rudolf Steiner’s Drama Course have on your work?

Itineris Teatro has been training its actors and actresses since its foundation in 1999, and Guilia Vittori introduced speech formation into the company shortly after its founding. Since then, the company has deepened the study and practice of the Drama Course to the point that Elisabetta Cara, Francesca Chimento, and I obtained our degrees in speech formation at the Associazione Auriga. Currently, the entire training of the actors and actresses and a large part of the productions are based on Steiner’s course.
