In 1938, Faust I and II were performed in their entirety for the first time at the Goetheanum—it was the world premiere. The Goetheanum stage recently performed Faust I and II in October and will do so again three times next summer. That will make 100 performances! The performance is shorter now, and the rehearsal period is more condensed. What remains is that the Goetheanum is rejuvenated by this inexhaustible stream of Goethe’s words and images. This is how Marietje Pfaehler, the mother of Faust director Andrea Pfaehler, recently described it. I feel the same way. Do you?
