At the end of each year, the same question arises: What is important for the coming twelve months? What decisions can we make now to contribute to a socially and ecologically sustainable future? In the opening lecture of the 2025 annual conference of the Agriculture Section, four inspiring voices shared their experiences in working for sustainable agriculture and food systems—fundamentals of human life that will never lose their relevance. Swati Renduchintala, a scientist at World Agroforestry, contributed her expertise in Indian agroecology. Ercilia Sahores, director of the Organic Consumers Association in Argentina, provided insights into her many years of work building global alliances for sustainable agriculture. Naglaa Ahmed and Thoraya Seada, members of the Egyptian Biodynamic Association and Sekem, illustrated how sustainable agriculture can succeed in the desert.
