A Space of Their Own

Nagomari, Georgia. Community rooted in neutral ground.

At the meetings of the Free University of Youth for Peace, the members not only studied eurythmy, acting, biology, the economy of love, and Rudolf Steiner’s Philosophy of Freedom—it also became increasingly obvious that a space of their own was needed. A place where they could develop, live, and create. Georgia seemed to offer the most neutral ground for this. The group went in search of a suitable plot of land there. And they found it: in the small village of Nagomari. The purchase was made possible by the financial support of the Christian Community Foundation. The first residents moved into the house in March of this year. There is now a permanent group of young people living in the community of the Free University. Together, they are renovating the house and looking after the vegetable garden and the farm animals. The daily life of the community is characterized by the intention to develop an awareness of how both private and social conflicts can be resolved peacefully. The place is therefore both a living and educational space.
