A Meeting Place

Saguramo, Georgia/Dortmund, Germany. The founding of the Free University.

The number of members of Youth for Peace grew rapidly. By October 2022, around a hundred young people were already part of the initiative. After a trial meeting at a Waldorf school in Saguramo, Georgia, the group organized a conference in Dortmund. Being able to look each other in the eye at these meetings was touching and strengthened the desire for more personal get-togethers. As not all members were able to come to Germany for visa reasons, the initiative looked for a place that was accessible to everyone. In April 2023, a larger part of the group came together again at the Waldorf School in Georgia; they traveled from Ukraine, Russia, Germany, Serbia, Armenia, Austria, Croatia, and more distant areas of Georgia. The young people realized that it was time to turn pondering into action. The meeting became the seed for the foundation of a Free University with three main directions: business, art and self-education. To this day, the aim of the educational institution is to promote communication between people from different countries and to explore how human love can be cultivated in times of war and crisis. There are now two ongoing courses: “Art as a Language of Peace” and “Agriculture as Peace Work.”
