Hardly anyone—perhaps no one—can predict how artificial intelligence will develop and how life will change as a result of its offerings, its assistance, and its temptations. In this time of fundamental transformation, as the horizon of an unknown future draws closer, we are gathering many voices to help form a picture of artificial intelligence today and in the near future. In the coming weeks, we will add more brushstrokes to this picture of digital transformation, because the better we understand its opportunities and dangers—its promises as well as its pitfalls—the more fitting it is to call this a human technology.
