This issue was under discussion in our editorial team for a long time before it was finally published—a sign of the necessary process when we start talking to each other about a heated topic. Although this issue focuses on the question of how to understand gender dysphoria in children and adolescents and its medical accompaniment, the understanding of gender and self-identification (or not) are constantly at play.
