In September 2025, the World Goetheanum Association (WGA) Forum took place in Sekem, Egypt. It was an attempt to think, feel, and will our narrative of sustainability anew. One hundred and fifty people traveled there from all over the world. The mood itself was sustainable and felt in the reports of those who returned.
“A society in which every human being can develop their potential and the Earth can flourish and produce its wonders”1—the people and organizations who have joined the World Goetheanum Association (WGA) as partners work towards this vision every day.
The WGA emerged from the 2016 Goetheanum World Conference, and the Sections at the Goetheanum are cooperating partners in various projects. As an association of many companies and organizations, the WGA creates connections only where changes in the economy can be achieved collectively. It establishes connections, asks questions, listens, and opens up spaces in which contributions to a sustainable economy can be developed. Its partners are characterized by the fact that their organizations contribute to the vision. How this contribution changes over time and what “association” means now or tomorrow must always be redefined. At the same time, it is important to protect valuable cultural impulses by making their concerns understandable and by developing and communicating tools so that new generations can carry these impulses into the future.
New Narratives
The result of the last major conference in Sekem, “The New Narrative,” is being brought to life through the work of WGA’s partners in their respective fields. We are all aware that the economic sphere is disproportionately large, while the cultural sphere, the arena of human development, hardly has any space. Through its partners and projects, the WGA is working on inner transformation (human development) and outer transformation (economic transformation). In doing so, it actively addresses the fact that our current world situation is not accidental but is directly related to our collective consciousness.
Current projects of the WGA and its partners focusing on human development include: Liberty in Business, Vulnerability and Entrepreneurship, Education for a Sustainable Economy, Formats for Networking and Exchange on Challenges. For thematic work, there is the World Goetheanum Association Forum, regional days, and online exchanges about challenges in the organic farming sector, as well as working circles in cooperation with the Section for Agriculture. The Empowering Community Sharing project in Brazil is one project that strengthens economic areas in disadvantaged communities.
