Enno Schmidt studied painting at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Frankfurt am Main and has exhibited in Germany and abroad. He was co-founder and managing partner of the company Wirtschaft und Kunst—erweitert (Economy and Art—Expanded), and involved in setting up the Social Sculpture degree programme at Oxford Brookes University. In 2006, together with Daniel Häni, Enno Schmidt founded the Basic Income Initiative in Switzerland, which led to a federal referendum in 2016. From 2019 to 2024, he served as a research associate at the Götz Werner Professorship for Economic Policy and Order Theory and as Managing Director of the Fribourg Institute for Basic Income Studies at the University of Fribourg. Enno Schmidt lives in Oberried in the Black Forest.
