The couple’s vision is to promote farming on a human scale—farming that is integrated into the local ecosystem and feeds the people of the country in a sustainable way. In August, Ocampo and Altamirano were faced with a major challenge: the sharply rising water level of a nearby river completely flooded the farm’s grounds. All that remained of the lushly planted land and the farm buildings were stones and mud, and all the equipment was washed away. What remains is the community that has grown out of the educational programmes, social projects and collective work organized by Ocampo and Altamirano. With their help, the IKÚ family is looking for land on which to rebuild the farm and thus their livelihood and home. Anyone who would like to support them is welcome to donate to the project.

More IKÚ Tierra and GoFundMe

Translation Charles Cross
Image The IKÚ family, image source: IKÚ

Nayarít, Mexico.
