This summer at the Goetheanum the curtain will rise for the 100th time on Johann Wolfgang Goethe‘s Faust I and II. Eighty-eight years ago, in 1938, the Goetheanum hosted the world premiere of Goethe’s unabridged work. Since 2020, the Goetheanum Stage has performed this monumental work in a streamlined, yet no less elaborate, version. The weeks of rehearsal leading up to the performances are a special gift for me, because I shift from the editorial desk to dramaturgy—from writing to watching and speaking. This issue, dedicated to Faust, is our invitation to the Goetheanum Stage’s three celebratory summer festivals.
